This site is for documenting and sharing good stuff with you – things I think are useful and worth sharing, like:
/* me in 10 seconds */
I'm Tao Ni. I've been a product designer (interaction and visual), startup founder, programmer, and researcher. I'm an avid student of life. My creed is Help Others, Be Useful.
/* tao */
(In Chinese philosophy) the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behavior, that is in harmony with the natural order. The interpretation of Tao in the Tao-te-Ching developed into the philosophical religion of Taoism.
/* a little personal */
I love books, music, sports (primarily football, aka soccer in the US), and travel.
My favorite quote is The first principle is that you must not fool yourself – and you are the easiest person to fool.
My favorite fable is A loss, no bad thing.

I am a design manager at Google and our team build tools to create Actions on Google Assistant. It's an exciting space because I believe the voice-driven, conversational user interfaces will transform how we interact with devices in the future.
Before Google, I worked on Einstein Analytics at Salesforce. And in my spare time, I helped my friends at LimeBike design and launch its very first mobile app, and also helped recruit and build the design team there.
I co-founded SproutUp in late 2014, and launched a marketplace for content creators (e.g. YouTubers, bloggers) and brand marketers to collaborate on making (fun) videos (like this). Previously at LivingSocial, I worked on the LivingSocial Merchant Center, and an internal tool for the sales team to create, track and close deals more efficiently. Even earlier, I built data visualization tools and mobile data analytics at MicroStrategy.
I co-invented AnatOnMe at Microsoft Research. It projects anatomical images onto the body and helps patients “see” their injuries, and encourage them to do their exercises. People wow'ed.
I received PhD in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. Go Hokies! I did research and published papers on Virtual Reality, 3D User Interfaces, and gesture interaction.
